What it's about
Ronnikka Tyler runs cross-country, gets A's in Data Science and walks home from school every day with her best friend. When a doctor finds a small mark on her arm that she can't explain, she starts collecting evidence the way she was taught to: dates, records, one test at a time. Her parents love her and are trying to help. The mystery is what she finds, and what it adds up to.
Book 1 ends on a cliffhanger. The story finishes in Book 2.
Content note
This story deals with the abuse of a minor. Nothing is shown.
The same note is at the back of the book, where a reader who wants it can find it and one who doesn't won't have the mystery spoiled. A few things you may want to know before your teen reads it:
- The story is told by Ronnikka, and it stays with what she sees and finds. Nothing that happens on the nights she can't remember is described.
- There are no sex scenes and no graphic violence.
- Some adults in the story are not what they seem. Her family is not one of them.
Many parents read a book like this first, or alongside their teen. If you'd like to talk about it together, the questions it raises are good ones: who a young person can tell, and what to do when an adult she trusts isn't safe.
